Home sweet Home

As you know, I come from Vietnam. And my hometown is Danang – a very beautiful seaside city in Central Vietnam. Danang has been considered as a most attracitve destination for people to travel and to live in Vietnam. Especially, my hometown has rivers, mountains, beaches and many many wonderful sight-seeings and it is being planned to be an environmental city in 2020. I have a happy family, close and lovely friends, enthusiatic colleagues, friendly people there. At this moment, I miss my home so much, and I would like to show you several pictures that describe how my home is ^^:

Danang – with wonderful beaches stretching along the city

Unique thousand-year banyan tree on Son Tra Peninsula. It has been recognised as a Natioanl Hertiage Tree on 8 June, 2014. The unique tree measures 26m in height, 10m in circumference, and it has 26 eye-catching rootlets. Most notably, its aerial prop-roots have grown into thick woody trunks which are indistinguishable from the main trunk of the tree. These amazing roots really help to give this unique tree its majestic stature.

The red-shanked douc langur, a beautiful primate species that is endemic in Indochina. Son Tra Nature Reserve in Danang has a biggest population of this species in the world. GreenViet – my organization is putting huge efforts to save them from being extincting because of habital loss.

The journey to a Finn’s summer cottage house with my kummi family

I registered for the kummi family programme in the middle of September and luckily, I was accepted quickly into this program. Now I have a Finnish kummi family who help me in sharing about Finland’ culture and people during the time I study here. I was so happy about that. Last weekend, the kummi family invited me to have picnic in their summer cottage in Puolanka, a small but pretty village in the southern of Oulu. The journey was so great and we had great time together, sharing about Finland and Vietnam. These are some shots from my journey:

Oulu and new friends

My LET2014 classmates. We have totally 8 guys from different countries: Finland, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Russia, Spain, Lebanon, Colombia and Ghana.

Vietnamese students’ community in University of Oulu. We had a really nice welcoming party together at the first week of the 2014 academic year. I would like to say many thanks to my Vietnamese friends, who have helped me a lot in getting familiar with Oulu and the student life abroad.

I was invited to go to my friend’s home to have dinner with her and her friends. We are served with a Bangladesh dish: chicken curry cooked by a very awesome guy from Bangladesh. We experienced a really nice evening time together sharing the student life in Finland.

Can you guess who is he? ^^. An awesome guy in my class, I like his sleeping’s style 🙂

I met some little Vietnamese girls who went to the Church every Sunday morning. So suprised that they can speak Vietnamese fluently. They are eager to share me their plan to visit Vietnam joining Christmas this year. Cute angels!

A Finnish friend I met in NISO. He is interested in Vietnamese language so I have tried to help him speak a little bit Vietnamese. He has a really funny sound when speaking Vietnamese.

FIRST EXPERIENCE ABOUT FRIDAY NIGHT IN OULU

My Finnish friend told me that it is worth to try the atmosphere of a friday night in Oulu, when the street is more crowded and active than usual because of the upcoming relaxing weekend. I would like to say many thanks to him and here is what I joined!

Hot milk coffee with mint chocolate cake in Salad & Cafe Olivia. I love the taste from the combination of mint and chocolate. And drinking hot coffee in cool weather was really comfortable .

I tried Mini Golf the first time in my life. It was so great and funny. Maybe the next time I will try the real golf.

Here is Salmiakki, or Salty liquorice – the most popular Finnish candy. I can not explain exactly the taste of this. It was unlikable but interesting. My friend said that it is a variety of liquorice flavoured with ammonium chloride, common in the Nordic countries, Netherlands, and Northern Germany.

I also tried Finnish xylitol, another favorite candy of the Finns. So supprised to discover that The Xylitol from Finland is made out of the birch trees. I did fall in love with this Finland’s national tree when they welcomed me to Oulu along 2 street-sides the first days I came Oulu.
